V-Ray makes full use of regular Maya cameras, but can also add certain attributes to add more advanced functionality to a scene camera beyond the regular Maya camera controls and attributes. These additional camera functions and controls are accessed in Maya in two different ways, depending on the functions desired: as either a number of Extra V-Ray Attributes added directly to the Maya camera node, or as Overrides in Maya's Render Settings window.

Extra V-Ray Attributes allow for per-camera fine-tuning control, while the Render Setting Overrides offers scene-wide control.

Adding Extra V-Ray Attributes for Cameras

Adding extra V-Ray attributes is the most direct way to add specific functionality to a Maya camera. Choosing one of these options adds a rollout to the camera's shape node called Extra VRay Attributes. There you can change the camera's attributes directly.

These options include tools to control the camera like a real camera with F-stop, shutter speed, ISO film speed, and other settings; turning the camera into a dome camera; and setting up a stereoscopic camera for rendering left/right pairs of images.

Creating Camera Overrides in the Maya Render Settings Window

In Maya's Render Settings window's Overrides tab, in the Camera rollout, parameters can set scene-wide overrides to the Maya camera, to primarily define the type of camera with which to render the scene, such as a standard pinhole camera or a panoramic VR camera for instance.

Many parameters can be overridden including camera type and settings for Field of View (FOV), Depth of Field (DoF), and Motion Blur functions for the scene.

Additional V-Ray Camera Tools

V-Ray automatically installs several external tools in the bin folder of your V-Ray for Maya installation. These tools are launched outside of the Maya application and can be found in the Chaos Group folder in the Start menu in Windows.

In OSX these additional tools are found in the ChaosGroup folder in the Applications folder.

In Linux you can find these tools in /usr/ChaosGroup/V-Ray/Mayannnn-x64/bin (where nnnnis the Maya version).
